Lake Clark: What Is It?

Six mile lake and the Newhalen River are the two lakes that Lake Clark drains into and those two lakes actually drain into Iliamna Lake. Lake Clark is actually about forty miles long and it is about five miles wide, which makes this lake one heck of a lake to fish at if you are taking a fishing vacations!

What many people do not know is that Lake Clark is actually named after the chief of the Nushagak trading post, John W. Clark in 1891. John Clark was actually the first non-Native to see the lake up close and personal. Nowadays, this lake is absolutely breathtaking in every possible way and there are tons of different people that come from all over the world just to see this lake up close.

The lake is actually nestled within the Lake Clark National Park and Preserve which was established in 1980. This park is a US National Park nestled right in southwestern Alaska and it includes not just Lake Clark, but tons of different streams and also lakes that are extremely vital to the Bristol Bay salmon fishery.

Lake Clark as also been referred to as the ‘essence of Alaska’ as it is located in a very small area of the Alaska Peninsula. Lake Clark is also a watering hole for many, many different animals and the scenery around this beautiful lake is certainly a life experience in and of itself.
